Rookie needs help - photocell

Unread postby jaahaa » Tue May 18, 2010 5:16 pm

Hi,

I have looked through the forum trying to understand the concepts and abilities of this software. I am looking for a simple timing system. If I understand correctly xnote will do this with ease. I am looking for a start / stop /reset timing system. The question I have is on the hardware side, is using a photocell the simplest way to for the stop and start? If so could anybody suggest where to purchase these? How can you power these photocells? As for the switch which would be my simplest solution?

All I am looking for is a person would trigger the beam to start clock, the clock would be displayed on a LCD as the person goes through an obstacle course, at the end of this course another beam would trigger the timer to stop. The next person would then press a reset button at the start, and then they would go thorough the course.

Any advice on equipment would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

There are no such suggestions. It would be great if anyone here will tell their story.
The only requirement is a conformance to on/off switch interface. See http://www.xnotestopwatch.com/help/external_control.htm

Thanks for the response, could any of the you guys share which photocells you have had success with? I am looking for a cost effective solution. I am not looking to be spoon fed, there is just so many alternatives out there and I am wondering someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your help!

I use OGE100 receiver and transmitter for it. Power it from 2 acid baterries 12V 0,8Ah.

I don't see any specification except operating voltage. Very important property in time measuring is switching frequency or scanning frequency.

mpegas,

Thanks for the info, the answer I received for scanning frequency was 10ms response time. I have a question, the OGE100, what would the easiest way to invert 12v to 110? I want to use this for an indoor obstacle course where the person triggers the photocell, which starts timer, then at the end of the course the person would trigger another photocell to stop the timer. Any suggestion would be appreciated

Thanks

Info about the equipment and configuration I'm using can be found at:
http://www.jahoma.nl/timereg/time-regis ... /hardware/

Beam can be used over more than 12 meter.

The circuitboard, beam and other equipment I'm using are currently described in the Camstudio 4 Xnote webpage I launched a while ago.
http://www.jahoma.nl/timereg

You can also visited the old pages about this issue: http://www.jahoma.nl/Almere81/Alt_Electronic_Timing/

10 ms response time is good for your purpose. From IFM also are products with acceptable charakteristics: http://www.ifm-electronic.com/ifmgb/web/ps!select1_40_10_20.html. You can pick device instead of convert operation voltage

Seems you should connect white and black to RTS/CTS accordingly.
