You must rewire your DB9 ----RJ11 connector in accordance with circuit in help http://www.xnotestopwatch.com/help/external_control.htm

Unread postby bentot195 » Tue Jun 15, 2010 5:42 am

Hi....

what is the color coded correspond for
PIN-7 ------RTS
PIN-8-------CTS

PIN-6-------DSR
PIN-4-------DTR

because i have a RJ-11 TO FEMALE DB9 CONNECTOR .
THE RJ-11 FEMALE I HAVE TO CONNECT THE GRIP SWITCHES THERE THEN THE DB9 FEMALE CONNECTOR I HAVE TO CONNECT TO PC ON COM SERIAL PORT. in order to do that according to your requirement i need to follow the guidelines
on xnote specs. but i am having a hard time which wire because is color coded and which one is which. if i know the color then all i have to do is insert on particular color wire on their respective pin number assignment.

thanks in advance

Sorry, but I can't help you, because I don't have RJ-11 TO FEMALE DB9 CONNECTOR and don't know pinout of that connector. But you can find where resistance between wires alernate between short and infinity with Ohm meter or other resistance meter. And connect this pairs of wires to RTS, CTS and DSR, DTR pins.

On the RJ-11 side . it has a push button gripswtiches which is TELEPHONE 4 wire "BRGY" COLOR.

PC-COM1-----------------------------DB9-SERIAL------------------------P--RJ11-------------GRIPSWITCHES--PUSH BUTTON

DB-9 SIDE---------------------- |___RJ-11___ |-------GRIPSWTICHES SIDE
PIN 1---------NC-------VCC--5V regulated
RTS----PIN 7 ? PIN 2---------TD-------BLACK
CTS----PIN 8 ? PIN 3---------NC-------RED
DSR----PIN 6 ? PIN 4---------GND-----GREEN
TR----PIN 4 ? PIN 5---------RD-------YELOW
PIN 6---------NC-------V+ unregulated
what color goes to from other side of RJ-11 TO DB9 SERIAL .

I hope this diagram works better to understand .

thanks in advance.

You can perform continuity check on gripswich side pins when button is down and when up. This is best solution I think.
